1. Skills Building Field Day Series:
FarmStart in partnership with the Ecological Farmers Association of Ontario (EFAO), is organizing farm tours across Ontario, between April and October. The format includes:
- Morning farm tour or ’show and tell’ with an emphasis on how each enterprise contributes to the farm business’ viability
- Picnic lunch and a time for networking
- Afternoon farmer-to- farmer knowledge transfer of a particular skill
The Garden Party Gardens and Berry Growing
Visit Theresa’s Garden Party farm (http://www.gardenparty.ca/) and understand how a public health approved kitchen can be set up on your farm. See various berry crops- several kinds of raspberries, gooseberries, some cranberries, elderberries, and blueberries. The afternoon will focus on strawberry propagation, as this is when strawberries are getting ready to set fruit for the following year.
When: August 15, 10am-4pm
Where: 1528 Notre Dame Drive., St. Agatha,
Take Highway 7/8 - we are the exit between Trussler Rd and Baden. The exit is called Regional Rd 12 - to Petersburg/New Dundee. You want to go North to Petersburg. Go straight through at the lights and we are 1.5 km up the road on your LEFT.
Cost: $20 per person or $30 per family
Lunch: Please bring your own bagged lunch. Lunch is an opportunity to network!

Ignatius Farm Apple Orchard tour, Part 2
Join us for an afternoon in the orchard at Ignatius Farm (http://www.ignatiusguelph.ca/farm/index.html.) During the spring tour, farm manager Lorne Jamieson introduced the practices employed in managing the organic orchard. You are invited for this second tour of the orchard to see what concerns they have this year, how different varieties responded to their methods, and how grass / ground cover is managed. Post harvest handling will also be discussed including sorting, selling, and processing.
When: Saturday, August 21st, 1pm-4pm
Where: Ignatius Jesuit Centre, Guelph, 5420 Hwy 6 North, (Meet at the Workshop)
Cost: $20 per person or $30 per family
