To everyone interested in helping to shape priority issues for the Right to Food Mission to Canada,

The United Nations Special Rapporteur on the Right to Food will be conducting an official country Mission to Canada May 5-15 2012. This is his first Mission to an OECD country. The Special Rapporteur has requested input into establishing priority issues for investigation, as well as suggestions for supportive site visits. He has expressed his preference for a coordinated civil society response which will likely lead to increased impact in issue selection, and a Coordinating Committee has come together to help facilitate collective input.

Click here to find a format for submitting your suggestions for priority issues – which the Coordinating Committee will then compile into a draft document which we will all review on a conference call Wednesday December 7th at 1:30 Eastern.

Please send your submission to all four members of the Coordinating Committee:

rschiff@Mun.ca,
sophia.iatp@gmail.com,
Annette.Desmarais@uregina.ca,
policy@foodsecurecanada.org,

clearly titled “RTF Submission” by noon Eastern time Monday November 28th.

Please include answers for Steps 1-3 at the minimum.

If more time is needed for Steps 4 and 5 – that is fine. Please indicate if this is the case.

If you have questions or comments, please contact Anna Paskal from Food Secure Canada, who is part of the Coordinating Committee, at policy@foodsecurecanada.org.

Timeline:

November 28th (noon ET) – Deadline for submitting to coordinating committee (at least step 1-3)
December 5th – Draft of compilation of submissions sent from Coordinating Committee to entire list for review
December 7th at 1:30 ET– Tele-Conference (everyone welcome) to discuss draft compilation of submissions
