FarmLINK
FarmLINK is up and running! Please visit www.FarmLINK.net.
FarmLINK brings together new farmers who are looking for land or mentorship with farm owners who have land available or expertise to share.
The program, developed in partnership with the Ontario Farmland Trust and Kawartha Heritage Conservancy, also provides online resources for new farmers, established farmers, and farmland owners.
Unofficially launched at the 2008 Guelph Organic Conference, FarmLINK started online in November 2008.

Good ideas. I have some land in Durham which I want to develop to grow grapes, herbs, fruit and hops. I need some help with weed control/cultivating equipment.

I am looking forward to the grand opening of Farm Link. This is a great idea. My husband is Thai and is a farmer. He is interested in sharing his experience with and gaining knowledge from Canadian farmers. I think your organization is a great starting point for new Canadians who want to continue farming as their profession.

Much needed! We’re a small family looking to farm somewhere in Canada, but cant afford land. (yet) There needs to be a ‘link’ between us and the retiring eneration of farmers, especially within small scale, we’re just not ready to do 600 acres!

My family has a farm just north of Port Perry and I’d love to help it become an incubator for new farmers. Farmlink sounds like it could be a great way of connecting with people about it. Looking forward to the launch.

Organic/biodynamic farm/gardener/builder :
Seeks dialog, towards a rural living situation either for self,
And/Or
with like-minded, community-intending friend (s)
I can bring my acquired skills, tools, knowhow,
and necessary equipment for a bountiful garden of any scale.
- Have long-time background in community alternatives.
Such ventures are still very needed as guides for many
seeking to live in more life-relevant modes.
Priority-locations would be south/central Ontario.
I would have my own RV to live in , and/or build small strawbale.
If you have land available, and/or resonate with this intent in some way:
Contact me, and let’s explore the possibilities.
thanks………. manfred

Dear FarmLINK coordinators,
This is a fantastic idea! I just visited your matchmaker map, and much to my dismay, half of Ontario’s landbase is excluded! Please be aware that Thunder Bay, Kenora, Dryden, Rainy River, and Fort Francis all have fantastic, viable farms, retiring farmers, and enthusiastic young people who are interested in farming! Community gardening (and possibly market gardening in the future) is gaining popularity among remote First Nations communities as well. Can you please add us to your map? If you would like, I can help promote this program in Northwestern Ontario by writing an article in the agricultural newsletter that is distributed and widely read by nearly every farm operation in the north.
Many thanks!

Are you looking for a couple who is healthy and very hard working?
Larry and I are middle aged with no dependants and are in the Peterborough area. We are presently in an apartment after having just finished 3 years in motel management which was interesting but not what we want out of life.
We really miss the farm life and have a lot of agricultural, marketing and sales experience in different venues.
We have had a market garden, raised many different varieties of chickens, ducks, geese, hogs, goats, rabbits, horses, and even ‘wild boars’. We have marketed and sold vegetables, eggs, poultry and hogs. We have shown poulty, rabbits and goats with great satisfaction and success, and sold produce at the gate and at farmers markets. Larry has experience operating farm machinery and crop rotation. Etc. Etc. We always welcome more learning! We want to get back to the land and since we cannot afford our own farm we are hoping to work with a farmer who is retiring or look after a farm and keep it operational. Looking forward to hearing from you.
We hope stay in the Peterborough/Kawartha area.
Thank you.

If you are interested in hobby farming on a 1.8 acre rural property on Vancouver Island (we call it “paradise”) please visit this web site.
Reasonably priced, needs someone who loves the land to continue what’s been started, including deer-fenced areas, orchard, potting shed, chicken coop, barn and perenially landscaped gardens around the house. Perfect for couple starting up.

I own a 100 acre homestead in the Bancroft area. I have gardened and farmed ( hobby ) most of my life. When the company I worked for closed its doors six years ago I asked a friend to join me at operating this farm commercially. During these years we raised pigs, beef, chicken, eggs and managed a market garden.
We have had people working for us which didn’t “pan-out” for us ( maybe because we were just starting out ? )
We use draft horses for most of our horsepower needs. Bush work in the winter and field / garden work in the summer.
There is a lot of potential here but just the two of us, we can’t make it happen. God brought us this far and we are sure He wants us to carry on. So we are looking for a like minded someone / couple / family to buy a share of the ownership of this homestead

Your site is the best one!

This is an excellent idea! Our farm and many of the surrounding farms in Oro-Medonte are going out of the business as one by one the farm families retire or die. Once the farmers are gone there is no one to teach younger people how it’s done. I’m pleased to see that someone is taking this problem seriously and actively trying to remedy the problem before it’s too late.

I think this site is a great idea. It connects the younger generation who want to farm with retiring farmers who would want to see the land used for what it was meant for rather then see it developed. I would very much like to get into farming. I am currently in my early twenties and have a wealth of knowledge in farming. I have a diploma and degree in Agriculture and I have worked on different types of farms from dairy to beef to cash crop farms since I was about 10. Grew up wanting to farm but never was raised on a farm so was hard to find the money for the high capital cost. Looking to work with a retiring farmer who would like to see the farm stay operational in the future. If interested give me a shout. matt.lamarche@hotmail.com
