Ethno-cultural Market Potential and New Crop Possibilities
The first day of the conference took place in Blackstock, Durham region. The focus of the day was on producing food for ethno-cultural markets. The range of topics included current market research, production information for specialty crops, IPM management, halal market opportunities, market niches and practical growing tips.
Mayor Pearce from the Township of Scugog opened the day, followed by keynote speaker Bill Sciarappa, and a morning panel and afternoon sessions rounded out the day. The venue and hearty lunch were provided by the Region of Durham, and the day was organized by Durham’s Rural Economic Development Officer, Marlene Werry.
